Zen Yoga event

, Please see the message from our lovely tenants in the clubhouse below. There will also be a marquee up by the clubhouse, using court 1 on the afternoon of Thursday 2 July and morning of Friday 3rd. I hope that this doesn't cause you any inconvenience and please drop in and see the show if you wish to know more about Zen calligraphy and yoga. Yours Hugh Dear Butterfly Tennis Club member From 3-5 July 2015 the ZenYoga studio will be hosting a public exhibition of calligraphies and artworks by renowned Japanese Zen master Shinzan Miyamae, to coincide with his 80th birthday. Shinzan Miyamae is the teacher of Julian Daizan Skinner, who runs the regular Zen meditation group at the studio. The exhibition is titled “The Zen Character – Paintings of a Zen Restorer”. We will be showing around 30 pieces especially created for the exhibition (examples are shown on the website below), and we would like to invite you to attend. Opening times are given on the exhibition website here www.thezencharacter.uk/venue/ Zen art is called bokuseki – literally “ink traces”. Calligraphy and drawing are used equally to demonstrate or transmit the master’s enlightened mind-state. People often find that the words of the calligraphy and the way they are brushed are inspiring or intriguing even if they've never been interested in Zen as a philosophy or religion. In modern times, bokuseki have been recognised as one of the glories of world culture. Shinzan has been a Zen monk for over 50 years and his teaching fosters resourcefulness and independence amongst his students, as well as insisting on their direct realisation of Zen enlightenment. His works have been widely collected both in Japan and internationally, and will be for sale. For more details see the website. This exhibition is timed to coincide with his 80th birthday, and Shinzan Roshi will be present in London and leading workshops in Zen calligraphy as part of his international teaching schedule. For more information about these workshops, see www.thezencharacter.uk or contact us on info@thezencharacter.uk. Many regards, Mark & Daizan
